Nobody, and I mean nobody...

I didn't even realize I had been put on a mailing list, but last night while I was furiously typing away the answers to my take home final I received an e-mail. In the e-mail I found Lecastlevania's (a talented dude from Atlanta) new single Nobody Gets Out Alive. It is definitely a banging track, and I am sure it has been tearing it up on the dance floor. Definitely check out this dirty rock oriented track. I've been banging out Lecastlevania for awhile now. The dude is definitely sick, and he's signed to So Sweet here in Santa Monica, so definitely look out for bigger and better things (Not that he isn't already doing big things...)

Check out his website here.

Also here are the links for itunes, and beatport. So support real talent.

Van She Does The Reaper

Van She has released a cover of Blue Oyster Cult's song "Don't Fear The Reaper". Check it out because it is quite good. I don't know if I have talked about Van She, but in case I haven't they are a solid band from Australia, and they do some good stuff. Check out their debut album V. It's the shit.

and I apologize for the lack of updates, but school is kicking my ass. One week until winter break!

Hello World, It's Me

Sorry for the lack of updates. It was midterm season, and it will all be over tomorrow.

But here are a few tracks in the meantime.

Anyone remember Jakwob? He did a fantastic remix of pop sensation Ellie Goulding's song Starry Eyed. Well he's back again, this time with a remix of her single Under The Sheets. Enjoy.

I Always Hated Beets... Until Now

Hard was fucking fantastic, both nights. I loved the music, and the vibe, and the venue.

Speaking of which I have fallen in love with The Bloody Beetroots. This Italian duo played a killer killer set on Friday night, and I mean I was blown away and I was one hundred percent sober at the time. I loved their whole vibe, their style, their Venom masks. Shit was great. I finally listened to their debut album Romboramo and it is completely solid from beginning to end. Please buy it NOW, and then lock yourself in your room crank the speakers until the plaster on the walls cracks.

Here are some tracks for your sampling pleasure.

The Bloody Beetroots- Warp 1.9 (ft. Steve Aoki) This was so sick live. Especially when one of the duo got up and started screaming into the mic. Chills.

Groove Armada- I Won't Kneel (The Bloody Beetroots Remix) Beautiful song. Beautifully remixed.

Goose- Black Gloves (The Bloody Beetroots Remix). Do you hear what sounds like Donald Duck spitting out the line, "Who's Your Daddy..."?

Proxy- Who Are You (The Bloody Beetroots Remix)

Reach For The Stars

I stumbled across these guys by accident while searching Myspace Music for new tunes. They call themselves Starlifters. According to Lastfm.com Starlifters is a a brand new french/filter house group out of Croatia. They have dropped their first EP. What is awesome is you can download the whole EP from their myspace for free by following the link they have at the top! Check these guys out. I am definitely digging what Starlifters is doing. I love finding music like this, and free music at that!

Here is a sample track off of the EP.

Do You Want To Be The One?

I have been really lagging when it comes to sharing the new music I have been discovering. Life has been somewhat busy. I went and saw Kaskade last friday. I have Hard Halloween coming up where I will finally be seeing DeadMau5 and Justice amongst others. Then I will be seeing Tiesto in November. Not to mention school, midterms, work, friends, girlfriend, etc, etc. So I apologize for keeping you deprived, but I have a few good posts coming up with some stuff that may or may not be new to anyone who reads this blog.

But for now I'd like to introduce you all to Jack Peñate.

This brilliant musician/song-writer hails from the Blackheath, South London. If any of you were lucky enough to catch Miike Snow on tour then you most likely saw him play as well. I myself missed out on his performance, but I hear it's quite good. I hear he is constantly dancing around while playing his guitar. I read somewhere that he has trouble standing still and so he has to consistently move when performing.

Anyhow the music he churns out is quite refreshing and you can hear many different types of musical influences. He has released two albums. His most recent being Everything Is New. I've provided two tracks for your sampling pleasure.

The blogosphere is on fire with the new remix of Heads Will Roll by The Yeah Yeah Yeah's. The producer behind this nasty remix? A-Trak. Just check out the remix, and watch out because heads will definitely be rolling.

Do You Rock Ghetto Socks?

Ghettosocks is a true hip hop artist from Nova Scotia. Although I am a fan of true hip hop I realize I haven't put many hiphop/rap tracks up. However, Ghettosocks is worth a listen for any fan of hip hop music. The beat is expertly crafted, and the flow is subtle yet packs a poetic punch. This track is off his upcoming album Treat Of The Day and I am definitely going to check it out when it drops.

Bears In Mirrors

Minus The Bear is an indie rock band based out of Seattle, Washington. These guys have been around since 2001 and have released four full albums, and four EPs. Anyone who is a fan of good music should check these guys out. The band's new single Into The Mirror has been released in anticipation for their yet to be titled upcoming album. Definitely check it out. I highly recommend it.

Horror in Miami

Miami Horror is a 22 year old producer hailing from Melbourne, Australia (I am loving the music and consistency that is coming out from The Land Down Under). He has dropped some serious remixes as well as released an EP titled Bravado. If you have never heard of Miami Horror I seriously recommend this guy's work (itunes!). Its funky, its smooth, it'll make you shuffle your feet, and maybe even cause you to break out into dangerous dance.

His full length album is going to come sometime in the earlier part of 2010 and I am very excited. It's about time!

I discovered his new single on his myspace, but couldn't find an MP3 file to download for awhile. But, thanks to AsianDan I finally did.

Check out the new single.

Miami Horror- Sometimes

Bonus Remixes:

PNAU- Embrace ft. LadyHawke (Miami Horror & Fred Falke Remix). I love this track.

I Want an Horchata

The African music influenced college kids from Columbia are back. Vampire Weekend has released their new single Horchata from their upcoming album Contra. Listen to front man Ezra Koenig sing about drinking horchata in December. I was never really a big fan of Vampire Weekend, but I am digging this track.

Click on the link to be transported to their website where you can sample and download the new song.

When In Rome

If you are a fan of Phoenix you are going to simply love this track. This remix of Rome by Devendra Banhart (I have no idea who this is but after listening to this track I want to know more) is incredibly beautiful and haunting. The remix went up on the band's blog a few days ago and now I am posting it here.

It is simply amazing.

Black and Blue

I had a great weekend visiting the lovely town of Isla Vista. Friday night was a great party thrown by some promising young DJs. Sick music. But in the meantime some new tunes for you to get your dance on.

Miike Snow has had another one of their tracks remixed. This time by Tiga. This is quite simply some delicious electro. I'll let the track speak for itself.

Thanks to RCRD LBL for hosting this one.

Dance Baby Dance

The boys are back! Chromeo has returned with a new single from their brand new album Night By Night. They haven't released anything new since 2007 so this is some good news for any fan of Chromeo. Follow the link to the website where you can sample the funky 80's guitar that laces this track.

Emil & Friends has another song. You can go along and add it to the list of songs named after girls. It's a funky little jam. Listen for the subtle guitar at the very end of the track. I really want Emil & Friends to release a full album already. If you haven't grabbed the Downed Economy EP do yourself a favor and get it.

I Feel It

DJ Tiësto will be releasing his new studio album Kaleidoscope on October 6th. The new album features vocals from a range of guests including Nelly Furtado, Calvin Harris, and the twins Tegan and Sara.

Speaking of which the track Feel It In My Bones is a sick sick jam. Wait for it around the 2:55 mark. Sends chills down my spine. The twins' vocals match with Tiësto's production seamlessly. Not surprising considering he has remixed the twins before. Definitely check it out. It's awesome. I am very excited to see what this album has in store.

Tiësto will be going on a world tour after the release of this album. I highly recommend checking him out if you can.

I Haven't Vanished

The blog is not dead. I was just pondering my next move. I kept getting my posts deleted by blogspot telling me I was violating copyright law. Anyhow I have decided to try and stay away from posting anything mainstream (as those posts are the ones that vanish) and stick to the smaller names and track samples. So let's see how long this lasts.

So I present the first new sample of music in many a month.

The group is called The Vanish. They hail from the Big Apple. The song is called Heartbeat. The track is pretty catchy with a nice little buildup in the beginning that leads into some buttery lyrics and then the whole thing drops. Cue heart thumping.

Don't Miss The Train

I apologize again for the lack of updates, but life has been hectic, my musical exploration has been a bit slow, I have been going to the beach a lot, and I am taking a summer class. All this and more has seriously slowed down the amount of updates. But, here is a new entry that I hope you all enjoy.

Remember Garden State? Remember Frou Frou? Remember the lead singer of that group Imogen Heap? Remember Hide and Seek? Imogen Heap's new album will be released next month, and she has released this beautiful preview for the world to hear. I am in love with her voice, and I remember how Hide and Seek was remixed like crazy. I can't wait to see what people do with this new song.

"What matters to you, doesn't matter to me..."

Imogen Heap- First Train Home

As a bonus here is DJ Tiesto's excellent remix of Hide and Seek.

So for some reason blogspot keeps deleting my posts. I got an e-mail saying I am breaking copyright law for putting up the new DeadMau5 track. WTF? I mean these days the internet is the greatest tool to promote new tracks and artists.

I am sending them an inquiry, and once I figure this out I'll resume posting new stuff.

The King is Dead

No, not Elvis, but The King of Pop aka Michael Jackson is dead.

August 29, 1958 - June 25, 2009

Yes folks, that crazy genius is finally gone. The radio has been on fire with Michael Jackson tracks as each station pays tribute to the man who brought us the moon walk, made the crotch grab the sexiest thing since sliced bread, and played the Scarecrow in The Wiz. Rest in peace you crazy fuck. I hope for your sake you didn't molest those children otherwise the afterlife will not be pleasant. Ha!

In the spirit of all things M.J. Here's a remix of Thriller by DiscoTech. It's a good one.

Michael Jackson- Thriller (DiscoTech Remix)

By the way who remembers Captain EO?

Does the death of Michael Jackson mean there will be some incredibly sick M.J. remixes being blasted at EDC? I sure hope so!

Tuesday, June 23, 2009

I apologize for the lack of updates. I have just been super busy with life and the mental preparation of EDC. Some new stuff coming shortly. I promise.

Thursday, June 11, 2009

Sir, I am Indeed Offended

Again old news for the internet, new stuff for some of you. I was actually banging a song out a few days ago and someone asked me who I was listening to so I decided to make this post to spread the word.

Does It Offend You, Yeah?. What can I say about these guys? They are from England. They are great. Their debut CD You Have No Idea What You’re Getting Yourself Into is pretty damn good. I have been bumping it for over a year now (It came out in March of 2008). Great stuff. I remember reading a piece about them in an old issue of Rolling Stone. Apparently these guys started out making songs just to mess around, but their friends wanted more so they delivered. Instant magic.

They have a great sound with lots of variety. Definitely grab their CD. Oh, and if you ever get the chance to see them live. Do it! They put on a great live show full of energy, and some crazy drumming. Highly recommended. They are currently writing the follow up to their first CD, and I am eager to hear what direction they go in.

Does It Offend You, Yeah?- We Are Rockstars. Whether you want to get nasty, break it down, or bang your head against the wall this track will help you do each individually or all three at the same time.

Does It Offend You, Yeah?- Dawn of The Dead. Catchy tune. Simply infectious.

Does It Offend You, Yeah?- Let's Make Out. Find someone to lock lips with. Enough said. This one is awesome.

The Empire Strikes Back

Empire of The Sun is an Australian (That continent has been pumping out some killer acts lately, and I am loving it) duo that have decided to fuse sounds of the 80's with keyboards, acoustic guitars, and a few other ingredients to create their debut album Walking on a Dream. Upon listening to this album thoroughly I have decided that the duo has cooked up an excellent album with some excellent flavor of sound. If you are a fan of music in general check this one out.

I just want to point out that these guys dress up super strange. Their music videos are even stranger. Check out this video. It will trip you the fuck out. Totally bizarre.

Here are three tracks from their album.

Empire of The Sun- Walking on a Dream

Empire of The Sun- Country. This track features some absolutely beautiful acoustic guitar. Its my favorite track.

Empire of The Sun- Standing on the Shore

Don't want to talk
All I hear is noise

Don't want to talk

I apologize for the lack of updates. I have been busy, but I'll throw some up later today.

The Eye of The Tiger

If you've ever watched Rocky III then you've heard Survivor's Eye of The Tiger. Well Dirty Disco Youth has decided to reinterpret the classic Rocky tune into a modern day funky electro bang bang boom track. I would love for this to be blasted from a high quality sound system. Take a listen, it might actually surprise you.

This is Sinatra at the Opera

Jay-Z is one of the illest rappers of all time. Hands down.

Blueprint 3 is coming. According to Kanye West this album is meant to kill the whole autotune craze. Which became really popular with T-Pain and was then whored by everyone and their mom. Autotune never bothered me, but apparently Jay-Z wants it dead.

Here is the recently released track off of the upcoming album. I am liking the production going on here, and frankly I am excited to hear some new Jay-Z blasting out of my speakers.

Jay-Z- D.O.A (Death of Autotune)

Bring The Noize!

Boys Noize is a producer from Germany who has been hammering out bangers for a cool minute now. The kid is simply ill with it. Enough said. New album coming in the fall. Be prepared. Oh, and he'll be at EDC on friday June 26th.

Boys Noize- Jeffer

Some Boys Noize remixes:

Röyksopp- Happy Up Here (Boys Noize Remix)

Justice- Phantom II (Boys Noize Remix)

Late of The Pier- Focker (Boys Noize Remix)

Who's Going To Win?

Another entry for those who enjoy instrumental bands. These guys hail from Canada and call themselves My Dad vs. Yours. I think they have the greatest band name ever.

I would go on, but I think their about me as posted on their myspace does a superb job of describing the sound of their full length debut After Winter Must Come Spring.

Music begins where words end.

With their first full length, My Dad vs. Yours force down post-rock barricades to a state where pop melodies take precedence over orchestral crescendos; where electronic beats, slide guitar and shoegaze co-exist in vibrant harmony; where instrumentals can incite sing-alongs. Recorded over the marrow-chilling months of 2005-06, After Winter Must Come Spring is tulips pushing through a late thaw. It is the sound of intense expectation that focuses not on escape but upon communal re-alignment. Though not a movement, it draws upon the social energies behind one: sometimes sullen, often celebratory, always self-aware and questioning boundaries.

Check these guys out. They also have an EP titles Winning Hearts and Minds that is just as good.

My Dad vs. Yours- Habla Paisano

My Dad vs. Yours- In My Arms We Shall Begin

Bonus:

Gigamesh- Creepy Fingers. This one will get you dancing.

Let's Play In The Wet Sand

I love the Red Hot Chili Peppers, and unless you've been living under a rock then I am sure you know who they are. They are one of my favorite bands, and have put out some absolutely stellar music. Stadium Arcadium, their last studio album, had enough Chili Peppers variety to keep me happy. However, there is one track featured on that CD that I absolutely love, particularly because of the way it builds up only to explode into a guitar solo that makes my mouth water. Whenever I mention Stadium Arcadium, its as if most people seemed to have coasted over this track without really listening. I want to share it with all of you. Pay attention to John Frusciante's guitar solo. It's a good one.

Red Hot Chili Peppers- Wet Sand

On a side note, I've read somewhere that this song is about two people arguing. One person believes in evolution, while the other believes in creation. I don't know if this is entirely true, but it is certainly interesting...

Imagination Fit For a Gangster

You know John Lennon's song Imagine? Of course you do! Who doesn't? We all love Imagine, its great. Beautiful song filled with hope. But, that's not the point of this post. The point is that someone somehow inferred I don't like hip hop. That is far from the truth. But, I like quality hip hop, and quality artists, so I haven't actually had anything with substance to listen to for awhile. But I am gonna have to switch the musical tone up for a minute to please any hip hop heads.

Most of us know Snoop Dogg, and if you all have been listening to Snoop as long as I have, well then you know Snoop Dogg's absolute banger Imagine (which is why I name dropped John Lennon) off of Tha Blue Carper Treatment. Produced by the one and only Dr. Dre. This is such a nasty beat, I love everything about it, right down to the soulful chorus. As for the good docter's verse? Straight fire.

There is no better introduction to this track then Snoop's opening words.

Yo Doc what up my nigga?
Snoop Dogg, it is what it is
This record is so motherfuckin' gangsta man
And I think it's time for me and you to just
Turn it down a bit
Come on....

Snoop Dogg- Imagine ft. Dr. Dre

This Needs To Be Made Into A Poster

I want a full size poster of this image to hang up in my room. I think it's awesome. Oh, and I want one of those Tiger masks. My birthday is July 26th.

But let me tell you a little bit about the band in the image. They call themselves Tigersapien. Interesting name to say the least, and again I am digging the tiger masks. The band was formed in 2008 and consists of four talented musicians from Philadelphia and New York. What's sick about Tigersapien is they pack the punch of a DJ, but all their songs are performed with live instruments, bass, drums, etc. They're essentially a rock band, with a major hard on for electro.

Apparently they've been working on a live show, and frankly I am curious to see what these cats (hah I made a pun!) cook up. Definitely a band to watch, and again news that is frankly quite old in the world of the internet and numerous music blogs. Check out the sample tracks and if you like it please buy their EP.

It's Snowing Inside My Head

I haven't posted anything all day. I was working, then had to attend a graduation party. Ate some good food, and returned home to someone asking me to please post an update. So here I am.

Snow in Mexico is a band I discovered awhile back in the blogosphere, added into my itunes, and let it sit there for awhile before actually paying attention, and when I finally did listen it was like hearing frost melt oh so very slowly. It's a beautiful sound. The band is made up of two people who are from somewhere in Italy, and frankly I love their name for reasons I have yet to understand or really think about.

They have a self-titled EP which I believe can be downloaded for free off of their website. It's some very mellow stuff, a bit on the quiet side, and soothing. I enjoyed their short, but very sweet EP to the utmost degree, and I highly recommend it. Then again it might not be for everyone, but I'll let you decide. I am hoping they actually release a full album, but who knows if this will ever happen.

Snow in Mexico- Velvet. This is one of the tracks off the EP, and if you enjoy this the rest are equally haunting, and I mean that in the most pleasant way possible.

Saturday, May 30, 2009

Simple post. A remix of a track by Ellie Goulding (pictured above). She's from Wales. She actually has a very good voice, and you should check out her myspace. I'd say she's like a mix of indie electro, and I can see this track being bumped at numerous summer parties.

Ellie Goulding- Starry Eyed (Jakwob Remix)

Emil Is My Friend

Emil & Friends is the love child of a very talented 23 year old musician/producer who's name is apparently Emil. I still can't figure out if it's just one guy, two guys, or one guy and his numerous friends. Either way the official myspace looks like it was created by someone on drugs, but maybe that is the point.

He has an EP called Downed Economy floating around out there somewhere. Emil & Friends remind me of a very mellow MGMT. I find myself listening to the music, kicking back, and relaxing. Its overall good stuff. Oh, and he does remixes too.

Emil & Friends- The Shrine. I love this song.

Emil & Friends- Electric Feel (MGMT Cover). I'll be honest I am not crazy about this cover, but here it is either way.

Little Boots-New in Town (Emil & Friends Remix). This remix is excellent in my opinion.

Im gonna take you out tonight
Im gonna make you feel alright
I dont have a lot of money
But we'll be fine
No, I dont have a penny
But I'll show you a good time

A Bit of Turbo Love

The Lakers, so far, are looking good for the win. Let's hope they close this one out. To all the haters out there, keep hating. In the meantime as I await the hopeful Laker victory here is some more music.

Apparently there is a remix EP of the Bag Raider's Turbo Love with remixes from various talents. Shinichi Osawa is one of these talents and he has crafted a truly banging remix of an already banging track. Check it out.

Bag Raiders- Turbo Love (Shinichi Osawa Remix)

Also I know the internet has spread Phoenix like wildfire, but I am going to throw this song out there anyhow. This is danceable pop music at its best. I'll probably post some more Phoenix stuff later on.

Phoenix- 1901

Weird.

So I mentioned Toy Story 3 last night. I wake up this morning and strangely enough, the teaser trailer for Toy Story 3 has appeared on the internet. Its like I have a sixth sense or something, but not really. I took some snapshots of the teaser for you. I love Pixar, and who doesn't love Toy Story 1 and 2? In fact I can't wait to see UP, which looks and I hear is incredible.

Kings of Leon- On Call (Kings of Neon Remix). Here's a remix of Kings of Leon done by 2 producers who call themselves Kings of Neon. Oh, how clever!

Excuse Me, I Think The Word You're Searching For Is "Space Ranger"

Alright, let me just say that this song that Moby dropped last EDC has haunted me throughout the year. Every time I hear it I get goosebumps, flashbacks, and my eyes cross. This track ripped it so hard. I remember thousands of people with their hands in the air pumping their limbs as the track built up to its thunderous drop. Sweet Jesus it was fucking awesome.

The beat in discussion being by Guru Josh Project entitled Infinity 2008 Mix. I have had it on repeat for a little while now. I mean what is that in the beginning? It's sounds like horns calling us into a raging sea of people and lights. In the famous words of Buzz Lightyear of Star Command. To Infinity and beyond!

Guru Josh Project- Infinity 2008

Oh which randomly reminds me. Toy Story 3 is coming.

There's One In All Of Us

That's the tag line on the poster for Spike Jonze's vision of the beloved children's book Where The Wild Things Are. Frankly I cannot wait for this movie, and the trailer does a good job of reaching for my inner child and ripping it straight to the front. I am loving the look of this movie.

If you have actually seen the trailer then you might or might not be wondering about the song that plays throughout. Well for those of you who know a thing or two you'll recognize it as Arcade Fire's Wake Up. I actually prefer this trailer version to the one that is on the album. I love the howls at the end. Simply brilliant.

And if you don't know anything about Arcade Fire well they hail from Canada, and well they're actually quite good. Check them out.

What an odd collection of people...

Arcade Fire- Wake Up (Trailer Version)

Arcade Fire- Wake Up (Original)

Arcade Fire- Rebellion (Lies)

I Miss Steve Irwin

Australia gave birth to one of the baddest motherfuckers around and sadly as we all know he was killed. By a pissed off sting ray, but thats life. Anyhow yea, I miss the crocodile hunter aka Steve Irwin.

He was the shit. But that wasn't why I decided to post this morning. I actually wanted to share two other badass things that come from Australia and happen to be alive and kicking. I happen to be aware that in the blogosphere this information is incredibly old, and everyone, their mom, and the children already knows these names. But, I am sharing nonetheless because some of you aren't up to speed. So allow me.

The first is The Presets.

This is a duo that knows how to make some killer dance tracks. Again another group I hear puts on an amazing live show. If anyone of you were at Coachella they were there, as well as Ultra. They have two full albums Beams and Apocalypso, both incredibly rich, and full of tracks to get your swerve on, make babies, cook tuna casserole, or whatever else floats your boat. Check them out. I have provided you with two tracks to sample and caress.

The Presets- A New Sky. I simply love this track. It gets my feet shuffling every time.

Over and outside
And under
Over a new sky
I wonder

The Presets- Talk Like That

The second is the band Cut Copy. I have actually had the pleasure of seeing these guys live in Hollywood at the Music Box. They did not disappoint and sound absolutely amazing live. The show was awesome even though I was next to the most annoying girl in the whole world and it got shut down by the fire marshall early because of capacity, but thats a rant for another day.

Anyhow my point is these guys are sick. They have released two albums (if I am mistaken someone please correct me). Their latter album In Ghost Colours is probably one of my favorite albums ever and its great for any mood. They got enough sound variations running throughout 15 tracks to keep you satisfied.

Lights and Music are on my mind! Here are some samples.

Cut Copy- Future. This one is off their first album Bright Like Neon Love.

Cut Copy- Hearts on Fire. Listen for that sexy ass saxophone (at least I think it is?) in the latter part of the track as it erupts into something sublime.

Oh, and here is a remix track courtesy of their fellow brethren The Bag Raiders.

Cut Copy- Far Away (Bag Raiders Remix)
